DIY Fashion: Knit Skirt

Finally, I finished making Gwen's winter skirt (as pictured above). It was such a raging success that I decided to share my knitting instructions, as per the below.

Note:
- This skirt suits a toddler wearing size 3 clothes.
- I used 8 ply Heirloom Dazzle yarn.
- 3¾ knitting needles were used.

1. Cast on 118 stitches.

2. Double rib knit (waistband 5 cm height):
1st row - K2, P2 (rep.)
2nd row - P2, K2 (rep.)

3. Knit 3 rows - K (rep.)
4. Irish moss stitch (skirt - 8 rows altogether):
1st row - K1, P1 (rep.)
2nd row - K1, P1 (rep.)
3rd row - P1, K1 (rep.)
4th row - P1, K1 (rep.)

5. Stocking stitch (skirt - 6 rows alt.):
1st row - K1 (rep.)
2nd row - P1 (rep.)

6. Rep. step 4 (8 rows).

7. Rep. step 5 (6 rows).

8. Rep. step 4 (8 rows).

9. Rep. step 5 (6 rows).

10. Rep. step 4 (8 rows).

11. Rep. step 5 (6 rows).

12. Knit 2 rows - K (rep.).

13. Cast off.

14. Bring sides together creating a CB seam (WS outward). With matching knitting yarn sew the CB seam closed.

15. Cut 49 cm elastic (5 or 8 mm) and tie ends together.

16. Lay elastic band around waistband location of skirt. Fold edge over the elastic, till it reaches the end of the double rib knit area. Use pins to hold the waistband closed. Stitch closed the waistband.

17. Turn the skirt right side out, and you are finished.
